So beyond my normal work I been posting on here I thought it would be a good idea to incorperate some of my studio work on the blog as well. Seeing as I been extremely lazy and need to get back in the grove of posting my own work on here and not just school stuff I am hopefully going to start up on one of my projects again shortly. Yes, I know I need to finish the infrared photoshop technique tutorial. It has been on the back burner for ages now and will be finished when it is finished.
Other than that this was a simple limbo white background set up. Three strobes with bounce umbrellas going to another bounce onto a white seamless background. This also has an extremely large softbox for the main light. I forgot the power settings on the profoto pack but the average meter reading was about f/5.6 for the background.

My New Canon 85mm 1.8
So this was one of the first images I have taken with my new 85mm 1.8 canon lens. Honestly it was a great buy for the price I got it at. At around 295, with out tax I picked up this beauty and it has been worth every penny so far. Both of these images were taken with the 85mm lens in studio. Which now getting used to the studio, which has been an awesome work space so far, I just need to get more reliable models. The ones I do get are awesome though. I can't thank Dustin and Sasha enough, you guys rock! In other news this lens is going to be wonderful for vortographs. I will end up having more vorotgraphs in the near future utilizing this lens in the near future.

Getting back in the groove

It's been so long since I last worked with studio lighting so I decided to give it another shot. These were for my PH225 online class for composition. I am not a huge fan of compositional "rules" but here are my submissions for that assignment.
They aren't "horrible" but they aren't "great" but I don't have a great feeling of direction with them. The self portrait in the middle is how I would like my lighting compositions to kind of play out since it has an ethreal feel to it but I am not sure on when I am going to be able to put it into play.
I do have a couple ideas for fashion portraits with it but there isn't a whole lot I can think of off hand as I drink this delicious spiced amber ale blue moon. I guess more will come with time.

Slight Differences

The photoshoot idea was dressing as a crow. Like I said before this might end up being used for a school assignment but I am unsure of it as my other shoots might be better and might be more appealing to the viewer. So time will tell for that, but the model is my wonderful girlfriend Mahkayla and I think both images of her are stunning. I do like the second image more for various reasons but I am curious on what my readers think of the two shots. If you would like please tell me which image is your favorite and why.

Casual Portraits
So I had my studio lights up today to do a little bit of re-shooting for the Sensuality assignment which more images will appear from that soon. Right after that small amount of images that were taken for the re-shoot I decided to do a bit of casual portraits of her. That weren't of trying to chow down food as grossly as possibly.
Keeping with my class standards that I am going to try to keep from now on I will be using square format as I am quite fond of it. With this as a constant practice I hope to become quite comfortable with the square format. Anyway this is Mahkayla, she is my wonderful new friend in San Francisco, she has never appeared on the blog until now but you will end up seeing more of her in the future.
So this is just a general portrait study for the square format. Since it is digital it isn't considered medium format but I will be shooting more 120mm film once I get a way to scan the shots down here. Hopefully in the near future I will have the equipment.

New Apartment
So recently I finally made my move from Peoria, Arizona to San Francisco, California and wow what a ride. I ended up getting my apartment, waited a week at my friends place living off the couch and now I reside in Nob Hill. Which is the extremely short way of putting the last three or so weeks of my life. I quickly left Arizona in such a flurry I left some of my camera gear behind but I have it now and that is why I can finally share some images of my apartment and soon surrounding areas with you all.
The images I am about to post are from the interior of my apartment, they have my roomie in the new make shift studio and some of the view outside my apartment. There is a lot more to come of some of my adventures here.

Self Portraits July 26th
Well after my little sisters shoot I decided I didn't have any decent shots of my self. Which is a bit ironic considering I am a photographer so I decided I needed to do one. Now in the timeline of the blog my sisters photos were posted on the 27th of July and this is going to be posted sometime in the future after that but these images were taken on the 26th of July, while my sisters were taken much earlier in the month, I think around the second week of July.
I haven't done a lot of super high key stuff so I decided to give it a shot but with any self portrait shoot the hardest part is focus, which between aperture control and a little ingenuity a rough focus can be achieved very easily. The top image is a little too cool in the sense of white balance but it I like the tone it gives to the image. The top image is also missing the bottom light which was added in the bottom image. This shoot was very off the collar just because I wanted to have a decent profile image on social networking sites and other things that may require my image or what not.
