Caffenol-C-M Development part 2

One of my ongoing projects this year is my Caffenol-C-M development. For more information on this you can view one of my older blog post here.  In the past I was going to see if I could make prints with this method but It seems I can't utilize my school's darkroom with out being currently enrolled in a photography class. So that went out the window and I started on developing film only with this method of printing.

Well on to the scans, these have made me now wanting to upgrade my scanner like no one man has ever had a need to upgrade something that scans before. At firstI had so many issues scanning ten whole film strips. Anyway these photos are from the Hellen CD Release Show. Plus my last trip to Sedona. These are my 3rd and 4th shot roll of Caffenol-C-M developing and I should have 6 more rolls before I am done with my testing of it. It doesn't mean I am going to stop using it as a developing method, but I want to get comfortable with it before I use it for more artistic things and anything that I might not want the chance of ruining a good image with something that I feel is more experimental for the time being.

As for my notes on this, they were the same but my water was at 76°F and that made my development time drop dramatically in comparison to my first attempt at this. My very first attempt at this type of development didn't have Vitamin C involved and took a half hour on development alone.

Abusing Film part 1

Well this is the first part of my abusing film experiment. I say experiment because I am doing this, for science. Well that is what I would like to believe but playing Portal 2 has gotten me all experiminty fresh. So expect a Caffenol update soon. I would like to do more film abuse soon but I don't have a lot of color negatives, and the bulk that I do have are from a lomo film camera that I bring around to take random snap shots of things. I would rather abuse some cool negatives just because the end result I will end up liking more.

These were from an older shoot that should have been cross processed but the lab didn't take kindly to my request and decided to process 2 rolls of film anyway that should have been cross processed then charge me a lot more. Thanks, I really appreciate large bills for no real reason. It had to be done, for science. The good part about that large bill also why I used these negative is because I have a bunch of 5x7 prints. So I thought these would be just fine to start my experiments.

These were in hot water with a ton of salt. The bottom one was microwaved for 12 seconds in 3 second burts and the others were just soaked in the water for about a minute or so. I might do more to these, probably soak them in some other colored fluids or something. To change up the emulsion more, but the microwaved ones you can see the sea salt crystallizing. I find that to be pretty neat, but it isn't nearly as much as an abused look as I wanted. Needless to say there will be more microwaving for the melted look along with some other things I have in store.

Photographer's Forum 31th Annual Spring Photography Contest

Yes, I have entered another contest, hopefully I will get farther than a "Finalist" position with these images. The spring contest is open to all people not just college students so it should be more competitive. Hopefully Dash Berlin and the last shoot with Britten will propel me to the next level so I can get beyond finalist this time around.
If everything does goes better than expected hopefully I can win some sweet gear and begin to inflate my ego farther than it already is. I have another Caffenol shoot planned soon along with some other things but with summer coming up I want to finish all of my black and white film and develop the rest of it.
I do also have some plans for some older color negatives that will become apparent in a future blog post. This project will be very interesting, for you, the viewer. Keep your eyes peeled!

Dirty Disco 2011

Well, where to start for Dirty Disco this year...

This was insane, absolutely bat-shit insane. United Groove and Warshaw Pact have thrown another completely intense party that was worth every cent and then some. One stage, one dirty dusty vibe, it was an intense night to say the least. By the stage there were the fire cannons that I first witnessed at Just Another Desert Party last year. There is just too much to try to explain, the easiest thing to do is just go an experience one of these events. The next one is Just Another Desert Party 3, it will be on par with this at least, and might even blow this out of the water. This has set the bar for awesome desert parties.

Britten Photoshoot

Well this one was fun, besides the searing heat and somehow cutting my leg and ripping out parts of my hand magically. I was testing some ideas I had in the little cave that Miles and I have found and they seemed to work like a charm. Unfortunately I had the ISO cranked to high so the color photos don't look as well as the black and whites look awesome. OH HEY CHECK THIS OUT, YOU CAN SEE THE PHOTOS BELOW. I did a lot more processing on these than what I normally do but I don't think doing processing like this is a bad thing every once in a while.

Renee Gherman Photoshoot

So this shoot I got to play with both of my new wireless receivers, which work like a charm in the day. The only real issue was the auto focus at night which over half of the shoot was at night. I did get some nice light. I was using my 580exII as a main flash with my spotlight and a 430ex as the kicker light. It was a fun shoot that got some awesome ice cream and creamsicle rooibos tea. I would like to do more wireless strobes in the near future but for now I need to save up for my 5dmII.
