Just Another Desert Party 2011 Medium Format Photos

     Well these photos are from Just Another Desert Party taken from my Yashica-D. I said all I needed to say about the event but these are some of the images taken from my favorite 120mm camera. I want to get another but currently I only have a holga and a Kodak Brownie to shoot 120mm out of that are trust worthy cameras. The others need to be cleaned and calibrated just because of how old they are. Anyway here are the some of my favorite images from the roll to start off this fabulous month of July.

"Fine(er) Art"

     Well one of the things I need to do is work on my photography in a "Fine Art" sense. Most of the work I do is related to events and a documentary sense. Some of these images are from my photography class at Glendale Community College. Hopefully I can do some more images that are considered "Fine Art" or "Artsy". I personally just like making things look visually cool, but there is more to photography than that. So here are some images that I feel fit into this category.



     These photos are all prints, two of them are on RC paper and two on fiber paper. The fiber prints are on the top and the RC prints are on the bottom. The top print is Noise Print #2. Then there is the Joel Peter Witkin Stylistic Influence, then Self Portrait, and them Image 7 from my Photography I final.


     The Noise Print # 2 was a fun shoot, that is also the most recent print in this series. I had a ringing in my ear for about 4 months which is what inspired this print and the others that went with it. This particular image was the strongest out of all of them and happened to be my favorite.

     Joel Peter Witkin Stylistic Influence, this was an interesting shoot. I had to build the floor and get a couple of models. It was shot on my Yashica-D and this print unfortunately was squashed at the top so you can see a little bit of the wrinkle lines. It has multiple layers the image was shot through so it was cool seeing how the final print turned out.



     This self portrait was taken after a trip to the Burning Man Decompression it pretty much sums up how I felt in that moment of time with everything I was dealing with at the moment. I am more impressed by how the print came out in comparison to the negative.  The print came a long way when you see where it was originally.









     This is the oldest print out of all the images in this post, it was in my Photography I final.  Image 7 was taken on my holga but the nice part about this was it was shot through about 8 layers of mirror and reflective material. The full frame effect. I have a fondness to this image because it is what my camera captured and it feels very abstracted to me.

Cross Processing

     Well this Saturday I went to Sedona, Arizona with Miles and James. I shot a couple of rolls of 120mm film, one black and white and a roll of 35mm slide film. There are some digital shots of this trip but that is for another post. The rolls of 120 weren't cross processed but this is more about the cross processing of the Kodak Elite Chrome 100. I did take some video and threw together a quick montage of the trip.

     Cross processing the slide film in C-41 was interesting, I was extremely curious on what the photos would come out looking like. The negatives were really purple which surprised me and to properly scan these I had to do them as a color negative. Which all the purple gave me these results with the strange yellowish tint. The entire trip was awesome, I am just a little disappointed that it was really hazy but the overall trip was a nice break for vacation.

First Color 120mm Film from the Yashica-D

     So, it has been a while since my last blog post, but I have updated the site a bit. The new top tabs on the site are the About Me, Current Projects, and the Galleries / Magazines / Publications. They are pretty self explanatory but if you want some inside on me or what I am planning to do some of that will be in those tabs.

     I have ordered the film I needed to start my Caffenol development, and my other projects are slowly taking shape. This Thursday is Sam Groove's CD release party and coming up is also the Hellen CD release party.  Among the normal events I am booked for, so there will be more blog activity in February. 

     Other than that the pictures below are from the first roll of color 120mm film I have shot from my Yashica-D. I have shot black and white from the camera and from that I learned how to use the camera and understanding medium format a bit more. These are scanned in prints and they are color balanced to look more like the prints, so just a slight levels change really. Overall I am impressed by the prints, but the scans aren't too bad.
